Recreation
In addition to the fine facilities that we provide in the Bethel Pointe community, there are many other excellent recreational opportunities in and around Wilmore.
Luce Center
Just down the street on the Asbury College campus is the Luce Physical Activities Center, a fitness and health center available to the community of Wilmore. The Luce features approximately 15,000 square feet of indoor basketball and volleyball courts, an eight-lane swimming pool, an indoor running track, four racquetball courts, a weight room, an auxiliary gymnasium, locker rooms, and athletic training facilities. Just outside the facility there are also tennis courts and a cross country course.
Equine Center
Also in Wilmore is the Asbury College-operated Equine Center, containing 341 acres of pasture land, trails, an outdoor ring, round pens, dry lots, an eleven stall barn, and an indoor riding arena 72 by 180 feet with additional stalls. The Equine program has a variety of programs, ministries, and special events that in which members of the community can participate.
Highbridge Park
Just a few miles from Wilmore lies the historic High Bridge community, so named because of the majestic engineering feat present there. When built in 1877, High Bridge was the highest railroad trestle in the world, towering about 280 feet over the Kentucky River Palisades.
Adjacent to the bridge is High Bridge Park, featuring a large pavilion and expansive grounds. It is a great place to take a picnic basket and enjoy the palisades on a sunny afternoon. The park often hosts community events.
Shaker Village
Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, just 10 miles from Wilmore, is America’s largest restored Shaker community. This 3,000 acre National Historic Landmark is absolutely stunning to visit with 25 miles of historic rock fences, diverse flora, natural prairie, abundant wildlife, and unique limestone formations. Not only can you eat at the Shaker Village Restaurant, ride on the Dixie Belle Riverboat, and stay at the Inn, but you can also enjoy outdoor activities such as:
- Hike on one of 23 trails
- Explore on horseback 33 miles of trails
- Bicycle on paved paths or hiking trails
- Bird watch
- Run or walk with regularly scheduled runs and races
- Fish in the village pond
- Canoe or Kayak the Kentucky River from Shaker Landing
